When I placed my order for a new Honda City last month, I told the salesman (S) that I must get the new car by end of this month. He told me no problem.
Today, when I followed up with him on the status:
S: Sorry, there has been a delay on the Honda factory. Your car won’t be able to delivery on time. Can you please allow us for another 2 weeks?
Me: What?? But you told me I should be able to get the car before I make the booking. Now you are telling me a different story.
S: We can’t do anything about this because of the delay… Even those placed an order on the early April yet to get the car.
Me: Ok, now I wait for 2 more weeks.
After hang up the phone, I am so not agreed with him so I called up the Honda Malaysia (HM).
HM: Let me check, it is estimated 2.5 months.
Me: Why the dealer told me they can delivery by 1 month and your estimation is 2.5 months? And what happened to the 45 days in between.
HM: Err.. We are normally estimated with the production. Each dealer has their own arrangement and better estimate. This is because they have no. quota allocated to them and it is totally up to them to do the arrangement.
Me: If I can’t get the car on the date they promised. What should I do? Am I going to wait for another 30 days?
HM: You can fill a complaint here and yes, you still need to wait for 30 days.
Me: Damn.. Who should we trust as the consumer? The dealer or HM?
HM: (Answer in the professional manner) Err.. I am sorry, I can’t answer you this…
Me: Are there any delay on production?
HM: As far as I know there is no delay on production.
Me: May I know how many cars are located to the dealer I ordered from?
HM: Sorry, I am unable to disclose. But you can call the sales manager.. his name is Mr. B with telephone xxx-xxxx xxxx to confirm when you can get the car.
… Immediately, I called the sales manager …
B: We don’t promise you will get the car in 1 month, normally we said 1 to 1.5 months. (Liar!! I am sure he is cross his finger when he talking to me)
Me: I am very sure your sales person talked you on phone when checking on the delivery time. He said yes on end of the month.
B: It is still depend of the delivery on HM. (See.. I know he going to say this)
Me: I don’t care. Then you give me a blank and white when I will getting my car?
B: I can’t.. as HM yet to provide us the production date (again?? )
May be I should just cancel my order.. I am really giving up on the stupid story between the HM and the dealer.

Hmm Sometimes the sales-man sorta make their own arrangement, and sorry to say, some salesman infact switch the order, esp when there's no rush and there's other people have the urge to get the car asap, so the salesman will make special arrangement and lies can be told here. I've came across lots of cases but then sometimes 'money talks' haha. My friend manage to get his car in 1 month time including the booking period. But he will need to pay extra RM1000 to get the car that soon. But no offence, the salesman does make special arrangement, so complain when it's late or try to give the sales man a call again to c what the respond is...
savante - business as usual for them. I heard my agent told me, the i-dsi model is 2 months late now. As they having shortage on parts. Go figure.. :)
prince of darkness - don't think we should pay extra for getting the car soon because this will cause other to get thier car late.. :)
